Best Friends

You’ve probably had loads of friends throughout your life. Maybe you were the type of child who could make instant friends with the other kids on the playground. Or in high school, you had your “crew” that stood up for one another. That's my guess anyway, because our church certainly has a friendly atmosphere of adults that really know how to love on one another.

But among all the friends in your lifetime, you’ve probably had a select few best friends. These precious gems are the ones (or only one) that you'd call in a crisis, or who you've shared more thoughts and secrets with. This person is the one that knows exactly how to laugh or weep alongside you. Thank God for the awesome gift of friendship!

Your best friend is the one who has given you a blank check on life.

There are only a few people around you that when they, "If there's anything I can do for you, let me know," you believe them wholeheartedly. In fact, it's probably a rule of thumb that the give-you-the-shirt-off-my-back person is genuinely your true friend. In the Scriptures, Jonathan was David's bestie. He told him, "Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee." And he meant it!

Let's revisit a Text from a recent sermon - But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. (James 1:22) When the Lord speaks to you, do you have the spirit of Jonathan? Have you told God, Whatever you want, Lord, I will give you? Have you written Him a blank check?

On occasion, I've asked someone to do me a favor and they hesitated, wanting to hear the task BEFORE they committed to it. Let me encourage you to not be that guy. Don't have prerequisites with your service to Jesus Christ.

You can guarantee that your relationship with God will grow when you have unconditionally yielded yourself to Him. When you're ready and willing to obey the Word no matter the cost, and you're actively making decisions based on Scripture and solely for God's pleasure, I believe that's when we can consider ourselves as the Lord's best friend.
