Loving Justice

Recently, I read an poll that placed Judge Judy as the number one rated daytime television show. Now, I have a great friend who loves Judge Judy, but apparently so do over 9 million other Americans who watch her daily. Seriously? 9 million viewers? Number 1 rating? I admit, I was surprised to see that.

In my estimation, I'd guess the primary reason for viewership would be that as moral, spiritual creatures, we have an innate desire for justice. Which we inherited from our Father!

Psalm 37:27-28 says, Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

God loves judgment.

What a wonderful principle! What an amazing God! He does not behave with the same spiteful vengeance as the false gods. He executes perfect judgment. While our courts may inadvertently place an innocent man in bonds, God has never once missed a verdict. The righteous will dwell forevermore. The wicked shall be cut off. Period.

Do good, my friend! Depart from evil, and do good. God, Who loves judgment, is standing by to reward your goodness. He has never, never forsaken His saints. Knowing that the Lord loves justice gives us two great motivating factors for living righteously: obedience reaps a blessing; disobedience reaps disaster.

If we were to watch Judge Judy, we'd be gratified in seeing judgment. Our desire is to see cheaters pay, and the innocent to be protected. Stay near to God, Christian. His passion is judgment. He loves justice.

Depart from evil, and do good. It doesn't get any simpler than that.
