10:36-39, For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: “For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

11:1-40, Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice. Noah prepared an ark for the saving of his household. Abraham obeyed when he was called to go. Sarah bore a child when she was past the age. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

Abraham offered up Isaac. Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph. Moses was hidden three months by his parents, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, forsook Egypt, kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, passed through the Red Sea as by dry land. Rahab received the spies with peace.

(For time would fail to tell of the judges, kings, and prophets): who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the foreigners.
